Professional Internship Program

Are you ready to kick-start your career? Melbourne Polytechnic has partnered with Readygrad to provide final-year students from four study areas with a 12-week professional work placement at a reputable company or not-for-profit.

Readygrad has helped over 15,000 ambitious students and graduates kick-start their careers through the Professional Internships Program. With a network of 4,500 industry partners, including some of Australia's largest and most recognisable brand names, Readygrad interns receive the experience, confidence and networks to stand out in the competitive graduate landscape. In fact, 44 per cent of interns are offered a permanent role with their host company and 99 per cent said that the internship helped them secure a job.

Issued on successful completion of all pre-placement workshops and preparation, relevant consultations, host company interviews, course evaluations, and meeting the requirements of the training agreement and attendance of the placement.

How it works

  1. Receive an Internships Expression of Interest form from Melbourne Polytechnic International Office via email
  2. Return completed Internships Expression of Interest Form to Melbourne Polytechnic International Office
  3. Attend resume and interview preparation orientation workshop
  4. Submit application documents
  5. Meet with your personal placement consultant
  6. Placement consultant will match you with a host company
  7. Attend an interview
  8. Receive placement offer
  9. Start your internship placement
  10. Support from your personal placement consultant

Assessments

There are four assessments required to successfully complete the program:

  • Week 2: Multiple Choice Assessment*
  • Week 3: Online Case Study*
  • Week 4: Online WHS Quiz
  • Week 10 and 16: Final Work Placement Assessment, with Part A completed in week 10 and Part B completed in week 16*

Time commitment

  • 3-5 days per week during business hours
  • 20 hours self-directed learning
  • 274-456 hours work placement

Frequently asked questions

International students who are unable to attend the required three days per week during studies can ask to attend the internship in summer after exams. Students granted a post-study work visa after successful completion of studies with Melbourne Polytechnic can undertake the internship while on the post-study work visa.

No, International students will enrol in the unit Work Effectively in a Business Environment with Ready Grad, a registered RTO, so the internship is not considered work contributing to the 40hour capacity student visa holders are limited to.
