  • improve employment outcomes through vocational education and training in key priority industries
  • support social development and community connectedness.

Scope of Works

The project scope includes:

  • Refurbishment and fit-out of the existing Building A, a 10,200 m², eight-level building including roof top plant room on Level 8.
  • The fit-out works includes educational spaces for a range of technology related to creative arts, foundation studies, student amenities and support services and staff accommodation for Melbourne Polytechnic.
  • In addition, there are cold shell fit-out works for future expansion to accommodate for partner organisations, or further educational space expansion.
  • Replacement of building plant and services infrastructure to the site.
  • Demolition of the existing TV studio pod extension (not universally accessible) and associated external stairs at the northern façade.
  • A new welcoming entrance at Perry Street and generally a more open and safer Perry Street frontage.
  • Refurbishment of terraces at Level 3 plus landscaping works, which provides for an indigenous cultural garden area at the northern part of the site.

Key project dates

The dates below provide an overview of expected building works for the weeks ahead and potential disruptions. Dates may be subject to change.

Date

Activity

Potential disruption

20 March 2023 - 28 March 2023

Existing roof-level plan removal

Light noise is expected to remove the existing roof-level plant equipment. A mobile crane is required on-site on the Otter Street side of the construction site.

14 March 2023 - 27 March 2023

Internal steel works

This activity will generate light noise with intermittent normal construction noise using small handheld and power tools. We anticipate this work to have a low impact on the surrounding area.

February - December 2023

Internal fit out works

Light noise with intermittent construction noise using small handheld and power tools will commence for the internal fit-out work. We anticipate this work to have a low impact on the surrounding area.

February - December 2023

Material deliveries

Traffic management controls will be required at the Otter Street entry. This activity will generate light noise and is expected to have a low impact on the surrounding area.

4 March - 30 March 2023

Studio demolition

High-impact noise works expected. This will gradually reduce week commencing 6 March to the expected completion date of 30 March.

6 March - 6 April 2023

External inground services works

Light intermittent noise expected to carry out the external inground services works on the Otter Street side of the construction site.

May - September 2023

General building and landscaping

Building works are expected to occur at the Perry Street entrance. This will include general external works and landscaping. These works will generate low impact and will have a minimal impact on the surrounding area.
