Push your creative boundaries with our hands-on, practical theatre courses.
Melbourne Polytechnic’s Theatre students develop and extend their skills in movement, voice, acting, and improvisation. It’s not all on stage - our theatre students also study scriptwriting and stage their own plays for a live audience. You will also learn theatre lighting, sound, stage management, set and prop making, costuming, and marketing.
Melbourne Polytechnic theatre students have access to the David Williamson Theatre. This 120-seat facility has an industry-standard lighting rig, lighting, and sound equipment, flying systems and set and prop construction area and stage storage spaces. There is also a smaller theatre training venue and a large movement room for rehearsal spaces.
Melbourne Polytechnic students may be invited to work on shows in the Melbourne Comedy Festival or the Fringe Festival. We have enduring connections with small and large-scale theatre companies such as Arts Centre Melbourne, La Mama, The Carlton Courthouse, Red Stitch Theatre Company, and Impro Melbourne.
