Apprenticeships and traineeships are qualifications which combine workplace-based and formal training. As an apprentice or trainee, you will enter into a training contract with an employer and earn money while you learn. In conjunction with on-the-job learning, you will undertake formal training with Melbourne Polytechnic.
The qualification will be listed as either an apprenticeship or a traineeship. Apprenticeships typically provide training in a skilled trade, while traineeships provide training in a vocational area.
Apprenticeships usually take three to four years to complete, while traineeships take around one to two years.
The other major difference relates to how training contract cancellations are handled. To cancel an apprenticeship training contract, both you (the apprentice) and employer must agree. In a traineeship, either the trainee or employer may cancel the training contract without the other’s agreement.
