Visual Arts Folio Presentation

Your folio is your artistic fingerprint.

Your portfolio should have at least six to eight images of visual art work you have created. We like to see a variety of works that demonstrate your interests and creative thinking, as well as your conceptual and technical skills. Submitting a selection of work that displays your creative potential is recommended.

For example, drawings, paintings, prints, photographs, public art ideas, models, sculptures, visual diary excerpts, sound and video.

A folio isn’t required for the Certificate III in Visual Arts CUA31120 but we encourage you to bring a small folio so we can access your skills and discuss your options at interview.

How to prepare

  • Organise your work into a flat folio (rolled up work is not a good idea)
  • Separate your work into categories
  • All work must be dry
  • Pastel/charcoal works must be fixed
  • If you have work that is too large to transport, bring in photographs with the dimensions labelled on the back
  • Digital folios are OK. If you are presenting a digital folio you should preload it onto your own device with a sizeable screen such as a laptop.

On the day

  • When you arrive for your interview, you'll be met by the Visual Arts admin.
  • Arrive in plenty of time, so you can find the right location and so you're not rushing.
  • In the interview, we'll look at your portfolio and ask you questions that relate to the conceptual and technical dimensions of the work. We might ask you about recent exhibitions you've seen, your favourite artists, what you know about the industry and what plans you have once you've completed the course.
  • We understand you might be nervous in the interview so please remember our staff are very approachable and are interested in learning more about your work and answering questions you might have.
  • We're looking for students who demonstrate a commitment and enthusiasm for the arts and their chosen area. Motivation and dedication are highly regarded.

Visit the Preston Campus page for travel info and campus map.

If you have any further questions after the interview, call the Visual Arts Department on 03 9269 1551 or 03 9269 1623 and we will be happy to answer your enquiry.

We look forward to seeing your work.
