Jewellery Interview and Folio Advice

Information for your Jewellery folio presentation and interview.

Your interview will be an informal discussion around your creative practice, technical skills and what you hope to gain from studying jewellery at Melbourne Polytechnic. It’s also an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have about the program, teaching staff or the institution.

In the Zoom meeting interview you and the interviewing teacher will discuss your folio of work. This
should include a minimum of 5 pieces of work. You do not need to present any jewellery items.
Your folio may include drawings, paintings, 3D objects, sculpture, photography etc. Your folio should
demonstrate ideas, skill and evidence of artistic ability as well as a potential for growth. If you have
completed a jewellery short course please include work that you made during your course.

Here are a few tips:

  • Digital folios are requested while interviews are taking place on Zoom. Please photograph
your work and email files to jewellery@melbournepolytechnic.edu.au once you have
    received your Zoom interview invitation.
  • Save files to be easily recognised as yours. E.g. samsmith_folioimage01.pdf
  • In the interview, one or two people will look at your folio and ask questions about the
technical and conceptual aspects of your work. You may be asked about recent exhibitions
you have seen, your favourite artists, who you have spoken to about the industry you want
to work in, and what your plans are upon completion of the course. The interview staff are
very approachable and understand that you may be nervous. They are interested in seeing
your work and in answering any questions you might have about the course.
  • We are looking for candidates who demonstrate a commitment and enthusiasm for the arts
and their chosen course area. Motivation and dedication are regarded highly.
  • We'd love to see images of your sketch books as well as any of your finished jewellery or
    artwork.

Good Luck!

If you have any further questions after the interview, please call the Jewellery Department on
03 9269 8980 and we will be happy to answer your enquiry.

We look forward to meeting you.
