Thao Thi Ngoc Nguyen

Thao was happy to come to Melbourne Polytechnic to study English. The Collingwood campus was close to where she lived, and she liked the Certificate II English as a Second Language (ESL) class that she studied in.

Her goal was to finish that certificate, to prepare for further study, and then study in a mainstream course.

After completing Certificate II (ESL), she went on to study Certificate III (ESL). She studied hard and was able to successfully complete the certificate. The following year she went to Preston campus of Melbourne PolytechnicT to continue her studies.

Of her ESL studies at Melbourne Polytechnic, Thao says, "Firstly my speaking improved, and I felt better going on to further study. My reading improved too. That was very helpful to me. So too learning computers. Now I use them a lot."

In February 2009 she began an (ESL)/Aged Care course at Preston campus.

"In my opinion, students must study hard, be on time and do their homework. It’s also important to come every day." That is what Thao has been doing.

In July, while studying the Aged Care course, Thao began work experience one day a week. She knows that getting the certificate in Aged Care will give her employment options. She’s looking forward to that. She continues to be a committed student because she knows that’s the only way to get ahead.
