Phuntsho Wangdi

Hi, my name is Phuntsho Wangdi and I am 27 years old. I am from BHUTAN and I live in Sarpang which is located in southern part of my country.

What program are you studying (and campus) and what is your goal in the future?

I am studying Associate Degree of Agriculture and Land Management in Melbourne Polytechnic Epping Campus.

I have been working as an agriculture extension supervisor for the last 5 years in my country. Being an agriculture extension supervisor, I work very closely with our rural communities providing technical support and other advisory services, therefore my future goal will be to develop agriculture technologies which will help to intensify and diversify the agricultural production systems to increase household income, improve nutritional standards, improve food security and conserve natural resources in my country.

How will studying at Melbourne Polytechnic assist you in obtaining these goals in the future?

By taking this course in Melbourne Polytechnic, it will help me to enhance knowledge and practical skills required in improving agriculture development and managing natural resources thereby bridging the gap between my existing knowledge and that required by my job.

Why did you choose Melbourne Polytechnic?

I am one of the proud recipients of Australian Endeavour Awards 2012 and my course selected for this award was on Associate Degree in Agriculture and Land Management. The courses offered by Melbourne Polytechnic were very much relevant for my award activity and also with my profession.

What do you like about Melbourne Polytechnic?

Melbourne Polytechnic offers a various range of courses for higher education and TAFE which are very useful in our future. Melbourne Polytechnic have great structures with lots of facilities and beautiful campus to study.

What do you think about the facilities at Melbourne Polytechnic?

The facilities in Melbourne Polytechnic are very good. I had wonderful time going through library rooms in Epping campus, they have lots of computers which can be used by student and the staffs are friendly and helpful too. The laboratories to conduct practical classes are fully equipped. If we want to stay fit then they also have gym with a discount fees for students. They also have a beautiful accommodation arranged for students like yarra house. Melbourne Polytechnic also have student services with a qualified staff which I think is very important for international students to avail all those services.

How do find the teachers at Melbourne Polytechnic?

The teachers at Melbourne Polytechnic are highly qualified. They come forward to help students who have difficulties in their subjects. They are very friendly and helpful.

What do like most about the course?

I loved going for excursion and visiting farmer’s field where I had a great opportunity talking with some of successful farmers and learning their experiences. I also had an opportunity to learn ideas and knowledge’s from different students while solving tutorial questions and attending practical classes.
