Marianela arrived in Australia in 1996, but she’d never had formal English lessons until she began studying at Melbourne Polytechnic in 2007.
"I decided to study English because I wanted to improve my English so I could continue to study. In Chile, I worked in administration and I want to work in this here in Australia."
In 2007, Marianela began studying in a Certificate II English as a Second Language (ESL) course at Melbourne Polytechnic, Collingwood campus, but was soon promoted to Certificate III (ESL). By the end of the year she had successfully completed the course.
She said studying English as a Second Language at Melbourne Polytechnic helped her in many ways. "It helped me to write in a better way. And it made me feel more confident as a person. I could express myself better."
Marianela went on to complete Certificate IV (ESL) Further Study, and she is now studying business administration in a mainstream class. She will soon complete her work experience and is hoping to realise her goal to work in business administration.
