Donny Doughty

Donny came from Kota Kinabalu in Malaysia to study International Trade at Melbourne Polytechnic

What do I like most about Melbourne Polytechnic?

Facilities are complete; the most impressive is the access to Wi-Fi! I can use the same Wi-Fi from any building on campus, just like being at home! Simple things like having toilets on every floor make focusing on study easy.

Student Support

The International Student Support has also been impressive, the international office and library staff are always helpful and facilities are fantastic. I decided soon after arriving that I would get involved in the international Student Association, and took on the role of the Preston Campus Representative, that has allows me to meet lots of students from different countries that share the same needs and wants as international students, and have experienced the same challenges in adapting to a new environment far away from family, friends and familiar home comforts.

Studying at the Preston campus is convenient because it is close to public transport and not too far from the city. I live close to the campus and I can easily walk to shops and the Preston Market to buy everything I need.

Favourite class

I am currently studying the Certificate IV in international Trade and my favourite class is International Business Trade because it aligns well with my future plans, providing me with a platform to build on with comprehensive information about trading terms, customs requirements and processes, basically how to conduct international purchasing with hands on experience though assignments that require us to undertake research in free trade agreements, suppliers and product research.

Consider providers that offer a balance of theoretical and practical knowledge, that are affordable. Melbourne Polytechnic fitted this requirement well and has lived up to my high expectations.

Overall Melbourne Polytechnic for me is the perfect institute for me to pursue a pathway to degree on the same campus, and to grow and improve as a person through my active involvement with the Melbourne Polytechnic International Student Association.
