Adrian Cross was interested in tiling as a career and as a trade that would help him find work all over the world. He hoped that studying at Melbourne Polytechnic would provide him with the practical training, career advice and skills to make that goal a reality.
Now, having completed his apprenticeship, Adrian is fulfilling his ambitions and travelling the world.
“I am currently living and working in London, and I hope to continue working and travelling for some time. And my trade makes this possible.”
Even though he had to overcome a few initial hurdles transferring from interstate, Adrian found Melbourne Polytechnic the perfect place to complete his qualifications. He was given all the help and support he needed to succeed.
“The teachers where great, they helped me a lot with the work I had to complete while at TAFE, and where always willing to offer advice about my career and work on site.”
But Adrian’s success at Melbourne Polytechnic goes way beyond just finishing his qualifications. He was twice nominated for Tiler of the Year, coming runner-up in the first year and winning in the second. He also received assistance from government grants.
“Being nominated for student of year and winning it the following year, and of course finishing my apprenticeship, were real highlights.”
Adrian would recommend Melbourne Polytechnic to anyone considering a trade and offers some straightforward advice: “It is a great place to start and make contacts. Ask lots of questions, and for help and advice at all times.”
