Manufacturing, Engineering and Building Industry Training Centre


Located across Melbourne Polytechnic's Heidelberg and Fairfield campuses, our manufacturing, engineering, building and jewellery making facilities give students hands on industry ready experience.

Facilities include a purpose built Building and Construction training centre, AutoCAD Training Centre, industrial robots and fully equipped workshops for metal working, mechanical  and jewellery making.

Locksmithing – securing the future

Our Locksmithing Unit at Heidelberg campus provides training for the locksmithing industry in Australia and overseas. Our students train on modern, industry standard, electronic key cutting machines, non-destructive auto-dialers to unlock safes and auto transponders to supply, copy and repair microchipped car keys.

Mechanical trade fitting and machining workshop – making great turns in industry

Our industry standard workshop provides a large ranges of lathes (manual and computer operated), machines for horizontal and vertical milling, precision grinding, drilling and equipment for training in fluid power and pneumatic (oil and air driven) systems.  This allows us to deliver the latest techniques for turning, machining, grinding and drilling metal giving students skills for the tool making industry.  We also offer students access to computer and metrology labs, heat treatment and materials testing rooms and a comprehensive tool store.

Jewellery making workshops and studios – creations to adorn

With a focus on traditional and modern practices our four fully equipped workshops/studios at beautiful Fairfield campus, give students individual access to a vast range of manufacturing, cutting, pressing, forming tools and equipment. Students love the individual work benches available and the new state-of-the-art in house casting facility using the latest European technology to bring their jewellery and 3D objects to life.  Training is also provided on jewellery specific CAD software, 3 Design so students gain industry standard drawing skills.
