Stephen is an experienced educator and art practitioner with an understanding and first-hand knowledge of diverse facets of both the Illustration and Design industries.
Qualifications include a Master’s Degree (by Research) from Monash University with the subject of illustration as its centrepiece, in particular the impetus provided for meaningful illustration by a pervading culture of vulnerability. Stephen also has a Diploma in Graphic Design and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Film and Television (Animation), both from Swinburne.
He remains an active practitioner, working regularly in publishing, with his most recent engagement being the design and art production of The Dictionary of the Wathawoorroong, an Aboriginal language dictionary and the production of six picture books for the Yirruk-TinnorGunnai Languages Program.
Stephen has a deep knowledge of the history of illustration, and a particular academic interest in the contextualisation of illustration, visuals developed through research, and illustrative content in existing and emerging visual culture.
