Sitalakshmi Venkatraman

Dr Sita Venkatraman is an Associate Professor (Information Technology – Higher Education) at Melbourne Polytechnic. She specialises in Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, and Advanced Computing models. She leads the Analytics Discipline and serves as Industry Coordinator and Supervisor for specialised IT projects.

Sita earned her PhD (1993) from the National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE), Mumbai, with a thesis titled Efficient Parallel Algorithms for Pattern Recognition. She also holds a Master of Technology and Master of Science from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). Her commitment to teaching excellence is underpinned by a Master of Education (2001) from the University of Sheffield, affirming her expertise in pedagogy, curriculum design, and lifelong learning.

Through sustained collaborations with industry and universities, Sita integrates problem‑based learning, intelligent computing models and data mining with visualisation into her teaching, drawing on real‑world problems and case studies in e‑business, e‑security, and e‑health. She has been instrumental in initiating and advancing strategic partnerships, including the globally recognised SAS Academic Specialisation Certification in Analytics.

Sita has served as Chief Investigator on multiple funded projects, securing grants ranging from $5,000 to $1.5 million, and has published more than 150 research papers in internationally refereed journals and conferences. She has received several Research and Scholarship Grants at Melbourne Polytechnic (2018, 2019, 2021, 2023) and was a recipient of the 2017 Melbourne Polytechnic Team Award for cross‑departmental collaboration. Currently, she is the Founding Member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Chapter – Health Informatics and Knowledge Management and her international recognition includes the Distinguished Scholar Award from the European Journal of Scientific Research (2021) and the SAS Educator Award from SAS Institute, USA (2021), acknowledging her leadership in analytics education, research excellence, and impactful industry partnerships.
