Mal Ioannou

Mal is a teacher in the Electrical Trades Department within the faculty of Engineering, Design and Construction at Melbourne Polytechnic. He has over 30 years experience in the telecommunications industry, including over 20 years with Telecom Australia/Telstra, over a decade of running his own business, providing installation and consultancy services to commercial clients in the areas of telecommunications cabling, security alarm systems, CCTV, data networks and telephone systems.

In the classroom, Mal uses real examples of practical applications within the Electrical and Telecommunications curriculum. He encourages students to explore new technology as the industry  constantly develops through technological changes. 

Mal uses Melbourne Polytechnic’s Online Learning Management System for lesson delivery, and he combines this will additional industry-based learning resources. Mal enjoys teaching students at all levels from young apprentices to mature age students. He enjoys mentoring his students into industry success.  

Alongside Mal’s formidable 30 years experience in the telecommunications industry, he hold a Certificate of Technology – Electronics from RMIT, with a specialisation in telecommunications.  Mal is also a TITAB-registered Assessor of Telecommunications Cabling Competency Standards and Endorsements.
