Gabriel Solorzano Torres is Executive Director, Commercial, Sustainability and Infrastructure at Melbourne Polytechnic, where he leads a portfolio spanning strategic growth, industry development, ICT, digital and technology experience, infrastructure, capital works, sustainability, commercial services, asset management, facilities and campus development.
Gabriel plays a key role in shaping Melbourne Polytechnic’s long-term growth and strategic direction. Working at the intersection of industry, government and education, he leads initiatives that strengthen workforce capability, support industry transformation, drive institutional growth and position Melbourne Polytechnic as a leading partner in economic and social development.
His responsibilities extend beyond operational leadership to include major strategic partnerships, government engagement, business case development, investment attraction and the identification of new opportunities for growth. He has led the development of significant initiatives across workforce development, clean economy industries, advanced manufacturing, construction, technology and precinct development, and has played a central role in the development and delivery of Melbourne Polytechnic’s growth agenda.
Gabriel leads the national Centre of Excellence in the Future of Housing Construction, one of Australia’s flagship workforce and industry transformation initiatives under the National Skills Agreement. Through the Centre, he works with industry, government, peak bodies, TAFEs and universities to support the adoption of modern methods of construction and strengthen capability across the housing and construction sectors.
He is also the Executive responsible for Melbourne Polytechnic’s Skills Labs and clean economy initiatives and has played a leading role in developing major growth opportunities across Melbourne’s northern growth corridor, including education, workforce, and industry development initiatives designed to support one of Australia’s fastest-growing regions. Gabriel also chairs Melbourne Polytechnic’s Business Resilience Committee, leading enterprise-wide resilience and business continuity to support the organisation’s operational readiness and long-term sustainability.
Prior to joining Melbourne Polytechnic, Gabriel held senior management and leadership roles within the Victorian Government, with responsibilities spanning schools, TAFEs, universities, infrastructure, capital works, asset management, sustainability, and strategic planning, and worked in global finance and infrastructure projects, providing legal and financial advice. He holds qualifications in public administration and is recognised for connecting industry, government and education to deliver workforce capability, infrastructure investment, industry transformation and economic development outcomes.
