Andrew is a professional retail baker and bakery training specialist at Melbourne Polytechnic. Having worked in the baking industry for over 30 years, and remaining hands-on in the industry, Andrew brings his professional expertise into the bakeries at Melbourne Polytechnic. With experience as both a baker and a business owner, he knows the relevant information and practical experience that his students need. As he is still involved in industry, he enjoys bringing contacts from industry into his classroom to give his students real-world context.
Andrew has been a training specialist since 2015, and has been working with Melbourne Polytechnic since 2017. Coming from an industry background, he understands that for students to learn, learned theory must be applied to practical tasks. He prides himself on keeping his classes fun and his students engaged. He enjoys watching his students’ skills improve and seeing his students find employment in a field that they’re passionate about.
Andrew holds a Certificate III in Retail Baking (Combined) and a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. Alongside his qualifications, he has over three decades experience as a baker and over 20 years experience as a business owner, having been a Baker’s Delight franchisee and retail baker for Coles. Additionally, Andrew has participated in WorldSkills international trade skills competitions.
