Cristian Barbieri

Cristian Barbieri

Cristian is a professional guitarist and music teacher at Melbourne Polytechnic. He has been playing professionally for over 15 years across many genres and styles. He's worked with numerous Australian and international artists such as Jessica Mauboy, Goldlink (USA), Masta Ace (USA), Brockhampton (USA), Dylan Joel, Thando, Billy Davis, Leikeli47 (USA) and Benny Walker. He has toured nationally and internationally multiple times and continues to do so.

As an artist, he leads his own trio, The CB3, in which he composes and releases his own original material. As an experienced performer of many musical genres and styles, Cristian understands the skills necessary to be a musician at an industry standard. He gives context the fundamentals of music theory (scales, arpeggios, chords) by using them to perform over standard songs. He also talks about the common non-musical skills sets required in the industry, such as organisation, song learning efficiency , effective communication and industry standards and expectations.

A music teacher at Melbourne Polytechnic since 2006, Christian understands the need for theoretical knowledge as well as practical application. Creating a connection between the two is one of his focuses. Music being a never ending journey of learning and adapting, Cristian likes to teach students with concepts that they can use well beyond their time as a student. Cristian is very passionate about seeing his students grow and learn. Watching them develop into better musicians is a real reward for him and he loves watching students have 'light bulb moments'.

Cristian completed a Bachelor of Music Performance at Melbourne Polytechnic. He has toured with various bands and artists throughout Europe, America, Australia and Asia and has played all of the major festivals around Australia. He's been on three Triple J "Like A Version" segments, one of which he was musical director. In 2017, he was musical director for seminal Brooklyn based rapper Masta Ace for his Australian visit.
