How to Apply as an International Student

Melbourne Polytechnic is excited to welcome you to the community. We look forward to supporting you on your education journey.

Make an appointment

Book an appointment to meet with one of our advisors, either online or in person, to discuss your study options, entry requirements, and more. Onshore students can also book an individual campus tour.

Search courses available to international students.

Be sure to check the course details (campus, dates etc.) and entry requirements (academic, English language, prerequisites). Some courses will also require an audition, folio presentation or interview.

Complete the International Student Application Form and attach certified copies of your passport and all required documentation as per your chosen course’s entry requirements.

Offshore students must apply through an authorised Melbourne Polytechnic Education Agent.
Onshore students (currently in Australia) may apply directly via email - international-admissions@melbournepolytechnic.edu.au or; via an authorised Melbourne Polytechnic Education Agent.

Once received the International Admissions team will begin their assessment. They may contact you or your agent for more information if needed.

After submitting your application, some courses may require you to attend an interview or audition. Your agent or an Admissions Officer will inform you if this applies to your course and guide you through the interview booking process.

In most cases, the interview or audition is informal and focuses on your creative practice, technical skills, and study goals. You may be asked to give a short performance or present a folio of work that demonstrates your ideas, skills, and abilities.

When all entry requirements have been satisfied a Letter of Offer and Acceptance Agreement will be issued.

In some cases, a conditional Letter of Offer will be issued. The conditions detailed in the offer must be met prior to acceptance, except where a pathway arrangement has been made.

Please read all the details of your offer carefully and ensure you understand the agreement before returning it signed, along with the payment required.

If you are applying for a student visa, once the offer has been accepted, Melbourne Polytechnic will send you a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) that can be submitted with your visa application.

After acceptance - what's next?

Visa processing times can vary significantly - from a few weeks up to six months - depending on your country’s assessment level and other requirements set by the Australian Department of Home Affairs. We strongly recommend starting your visa application as soon as you receive your Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE).

When applying for your student visa, you must include:

  • A copy of your Confirmation of Enrolment (eCoE).
  • A Statement of Purpose
  • Evidence of sufficient funds to cover the first 12 months of study and living expenses in Australia.

Be ready to answer questions about:

  • Your knowledge of Melbourne Polytechnic.
  • The course you intend to study.
  • How the course will support your future career goals outside of Australia
  • Your genuine intention to remain in Australia temporarily as a student.

Book Accommodation and Airport Pick-up

Secure your accommodation before departing your home country. We recommend booking short-term accommodation (1–2 weeks) initially to give yourself time to settle in, explore Melbourne, and consider longer-term options.

Consider Co-living Accommodation

Co-living is a Melbourne Polytechnic accommodation partner and offers exclusive deals for Melbourne Polytechnic students. It offers flexible lease terms, furnished rooms, shared communal spaces, and the chance to live with other like-minded students - making it a great way to meet people and settle into Melbourne quickly.

When choosing accommodation, make sure to:

  • Consider the distance to your campus location
  • Compare short-term and long-term rental options
  • Check for access to public transport, shops and services

Airport Pick-up Service

Melbourne Polytechnic offers free airport pick-up for new international students arriving in Melbourne.
Please submit your International Student Arrival Form at least 1 week before your arrival to arrange this service.

Create Your Unique Student Identifier (USI)

A USI (Unique Student Identifier) is required to enrol in any course in Australia. You’ll need your passport to complete this step.

Watch the USI Student Video for instructions on how to apply.

Attend International Student Orientation

Orientation is compulsory for all new international students. It’s your opportunity to:

  • Learn about life in Melbourne and services available at Melbourne Polytechnic.
  • Meet other students and make new friends.
  • Get important information about your course, enrolment and campus

You'll also be notified of your course-specific orientation and enrolment sessions details.
