Melbourne Polytechnic Aboriginal Education Strategy: 2018-2021
The Melbourne Polytechnic Aboriginal Education Strategy: 2018-2021 clarifies the focus of the institute in the area of Aboriginal education. This strategy was developed in collaboration with community members and elders, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and Melbourne Polytechnic staff.
“As Elders we are honoured to have a voice in Aboriginal education at Melbourne Polytechnic. We know that our contribution will create a culture of belonging, caring and understanding for all Aboriginal learners and communities”.

On this web page, the word ‘Aboriginal’ is used in a way which is inclusive of all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and in preference to the word ‘Indigenous’.
Summary of the Aboriginal Education Strategy
The Melbourne Polytechnic Aboriginal Education Strategy outlines the shared responsibility for creating an empowering and inclusive environment for Aboriginal students and staff, with Aboriginal staff, students and alumni; the local Aboriginal community; and all Melbourne Polytechnic students and staff having a role to play.
Through education, Melbourne Polytechnic embraces traditional Aboriginal values to create a harmonious and inclusive society.
To support a whole-of-institute approach to incorporate Aboriginal community values into day-to-day business and empower Aboriginal students and staff to uphold their cultural identity and achieve meaningful outcomes.

This recognises the shared responsibility in developing and implementing the Melbourne Polytechnic Aboriginal Education Strategy. Each set of values are given equal weight as stakeholders work side-by-side to implement the Aboriginal Education Strategy.
