Rajjan Chitrakar

Rajjan Chitrakar 

Dr Chitrakar currently teaches Design Studios and City Planning units at Melbourne Polytechnic. He is an architect, urbanist, researcher and educator with a background in architecture, urban design and planning with international qualifications and experience. He shares with students his understanding of contemporary issues in architecture and the global built environment based on his research and practice.

Dr Chitrakar has more than 15 years of academic and industry experience in the field, and has worked in Australia, the Philippines and Nepal. Before joining Melbourne Polytechnic, he taught at the School of Design at Queensland University of Technology as a Sessional Academic. As a lecturer at Melbourne Polytechnic, Dr Chitrakar strives to enrich the quality of learning and teaching while taking student-centric approaches. He firmly believes that students should be encouraged to develop a sense of belonging to the course which leads to a better, more-engaged learning outcome. His main goal through teaching is to deliver change and innovation in the higher education sector. 

Dr Chitrakar was awarded a PhD in Urban Design from Queensland University of Technology in 2015. He has also completed a Master of Urban Design from the University of Hong Kong in 2006 and a 5-year Bachelor of Architecture from Tribhuvan University in 2002. Dr Chitrakar is currently an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, UK.
