Dr. Sandra Cherro Osorio (PhD, MTour (Hons), BBus (T.M))

Dr. Sandra Cherro Osorio is Head of Program for the Bachelor of Hospitality Management and Bachelor of Business at Melbourne Polytechnic.

Upon the completion of her Tourism Management degree, Sandra gained industry experience in the areas of tourism and hospitality, having worked in different managerial roles back in her home country, Peru and in the United Kingdom.

In 2017, Sandra completed a PhD at La Trobe University, her research focused on contemporary Peruvian gastronomy and the role of local people in the diversification of local cuisines. During her PhD journey, Sandra began both participating in and presenting at domestic and international conferences. She continues to pursue research in the areas of cultural tourism particularly community development, indigenous destinations, food and gastronomy.

Sandra has published journal articles, literature reviews and book chapters as well as been engaged as a reviewer for academic journals. Alongside her PhD journey, Sandra began working as a lecturer and tutor, teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in various universities in Australia.

For the past four years, she has worked at Melbourne Polytechnic teaching a variety of subjects including introduction to hospitality, gastronomy, sustainability and research. Sandra’s current role has allowed her to become involved in research projects related to higher education including curricula development, international students experience and scholarly performance.
