Melbourne Polytechnic has been named ‘Inclusive Training Provider of the Year’ for 2023. The Victorian Training Awards (VTA) were announced at a gala event on Friday 18 August.

The prestigious awards program is now in its 69th year and celebrates outstanding achievement in the Victorian TAFE and training sector.

The Inclusive Training Provider of the Year category recognises exceptional training providers within the Victorian government’s vocational education and training sector that have demonstrated outstanding improvements regarding the achievement, engagement and wellbeing of students with disability.

The accolade is testament to Melbourne Polytechnic’s strong track record in inclusion and our commitment to supporting people living with disability as a core value.

At the gala ceremony, another inspiring moment unfolded when Melbourne Polytechnic business student, Rebecca Hope, walked away with the Trainee of the Year Award. Having once struggled to attend school without one-on-one support because of autism, Rebecca now thrives in the world of human resources, serving as a powerful example of our commitment to inclusivity and achievement.

Melbourne Polytechnic is the only TAFE provider delivering Auslan qualifications in Victoria and is the second largest employer of Deaf people in the state.

In 2022, Melbourne Polytechnic launched our All Abilities Action Plan, a comprehensive strategy to ensure accessible and inclusive education for students living with disability.

Nurturing success for learners with disabilities

Our Work Education Centre delivers tailored programs specifically designed for learners with disabilities and complex needs and provides job specific skills. The full wraparound supports we offer translates to completion rates being comparable to other student cohorts.

We're proud of these achievements and acknowledge that they are made possible by the individual efforts of many passionate teachers and support staff. The culmination of these contributions makes Melbourne Polytechnic a shining example of inclusivity and transformative education.

We offer our congratulations to our fellow award category finalists, National Food Institute and catalyst training & disability services for their efforts and commitment to students living with disability.
