Melbourne Polytechnic is proud to announce that Tannah Reynolds has been awarded the Outstanding Work Education Student of the Year 2025 for her exceptional achievements in the Certificate II in Work Education 22631VIC. This recognition highlights Tannah’s commitment to learning and her active, hands-on approach to her studies - elements that are at the heart of vocational training.
Tannah's journey to Melbourne Polytechnic began with a unique educational background. Having been homeschooled by choice throughout her earlier years, she made the transition to formal classroom learning when she enrolled in the Work Education program. Initially drawn by the Ignition Theatre stream, Tannah quickly recognised the value of developing practical job skills and workplace readiness through the comprehensive Work Education curriculum.
The transition from homeschooling to a structured classroom environment presented its challenges, but Tannah's determination and adaptability shone through. Her background gave her a unique perspective on learning and a deep respect for educators, viewing them as dedicated professionals committed to student success.
What set Tannah apart was her commitment to excellence in every aspect of her studies. During practical class activities at the Melbourne Polytechnic Preston Conference Centre she consistently went above and beyond expectations. Her attention to detail was evident in everything from organising kitchen equipment to meticulously noting different chair setups for events. This proactive approach and willingness to ask questions demonstrated the proactive attitude that employers value.
The Certificate II in Work Education 22631VIC included a variety of creative electives that grew Tannah's learning experience across theatre and performing arts, multimedia and visual art. Many different teachers deliver the electives, and Tannah explains that what she liked most is how all the specialised teachers got to know each student and adapted their teaching to help every individual learn better.
Tannah points out that these teachers could be doing other things with their time, but they choose to teach students instead. Because of her homeschooling experience, Tannah appreciated the teachers’ dedication which made a big difference in her life and preparing her for job-readiness.
The Certificate II in Work Education 22631VIC program's focus on industry-relevant placements has been a turning point in Tannah’s career journey.
Through placement opportunities aligned to her interests, she discovered a passion for animal care, which led her to enroll in the Certificate II in Animal Care ACM20121 at Melbourne Polytechnic. Her hands-on experience working in the animal house—caring for mice, rabbits, and guinea pigs—has not only deepened her skills but also earned her a paid casual position at Melbourne Polytechnic, allowing her to continue building real-world experience.
Tannah has also expanded her skills through additional placements in dog grooming, further affirming her dedication to a future in animal-related fields. Her journey is a strong example of how the Work Education program bridges classroom learning with practical experience, creating clear pathways to employment and further study.
Learning about her award win through her mother (who helps monitor important emails), Tannah's emotional response reflected the genuine impact of this recognition. She felt "seen" for her efforts and appreciated the acknowledgment of her commitment to excellence. This award validates her personal philosophy of not just doing her best, but doing extra whenever possible.
Looking ahead, Tannah plans to continue her animal studies while maintaining her diverse interests in theatre, fashion, art and collecting vintage toys. Her goal is to work in animal grooming or veterinary care.
Tannah's success exemplifies the transformative power of vocational education. The Certificate II in Work Education 22631VIC program provides students with practical skills, workplace connections and the confidence to pursue their career goals. Through supportive teaching staff, hands-on learning opportunities and real career experiences, students like Tannah develop both practical competencies and work-ready skills that employers seek.
Melbourne Polytechnic congratulates Tannah on this well-deserved recognition and looks forward to her continued success in animal studies and beyond.
