Dr Omar Bashar

Dr Omar Bashar is a Senior Lecturer in Accounting, Department of Business and Construction (Higher Education division); he joined Melbourne Polytechnic in August 2020. He has over 25 years of teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in various countries including Australia, Malaysia and Bangladesh.

Omar specialises in accounting, finance, and economics. He is a registered member of the CPA, Australia. He holds PhD and master’s degrees in economics from the National University of Singapore, MBA in International Business (with Finance focus) from Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand, BBA Honours and MBA in Accounting from University of Chittagong, Bangladesh, and Professional Certificate in Corporate Finance, from Columbia University, USA.

Omar has over 18 publications in refereed journals (including ABDC Tier A) and books. He routinely disseminates research output through publications and conference presentations. As a Principal Coordinating and Associate Supervisor at Swinburne University of Technology (including as an External Co-Supervisor while employed at Melbourne Polytechnic), Omar has supervised a sizeable number of PhD and Master by Research students to completion. He has also been involved in other professional development activities, such as serving as a Reviewer for ABDC Tier A journals, e.g. Applied Economics, Electronic Commerce Research, and International Journal of Managerial Finance, serving as Doctoral Thesis Examiner for other Australian universities. Omar was a member of the Research Committee and HDR (higher degree by research) review panel at Swinburne University of Technology, Australia, and Swinburne University of Technology, Sarawak campus, Malaysia.
