Monrè strengthens his beekeeping business through formal study

A man wearing a beekeeping suit (without beekeepers hat and veil) is standing in front of a large number of beehives on a regional property.
After 25 years in engineering, Monrè found a new calling in beekeeping. Now based in Australia, he and his partner run a thriving commercial beekeeping business, managing hundreds of hives across Northern Victoria and Southern NSW.

After 25 years working in engineering, Monrè decided it was time for a new direction. After relocating to Australia three years ago, he started exploring opportunities in agriculture and land-based industries. Beekeeping quickly became his focus.

In 2024, Monrè and his partner launched a commercial beekeeping business, managing several hundred hives across Northern Victoria and Southern New South Wales. Their work supports local growers by offering managed pollination services that improve crop productivity and align with sustainable farming practices.

As the business took shape, Monrè recognised the value of gaining formal training to support his work in the field.

He enrolled in our Certificate III in Beekeeping AHC31824, the only course of its kind in Victoria. Designed for students already working with bees, or those looking to enter the industry, the course offers practical and online training that fits around work and other commitments.

With a strong background in business and operations from his engineering career, Monrè already had the skills to run a company. What he was looking for was in-depth, hands-on knowledge of apiculture that could support growth and improve professional practice.

The Certificate III in Beekeeping AHC31824 met this need as it focuses on hive health, pest and disease management, pollination services and safety protocols. Students learn from trainers with real industry experience and gain practical skills that can be directly applied in commercial settings.

For Monrè, the structure of our course has been a major benefit.

“The teachers are great but for me the big appeal was the flexibility to do the course after hours and online. There are also practical classes once a month. For me, this means I can fit my study in with my business as it’s not too much of a disruption.”

This flexibility is especially important for people already working in the industry or managing a business full-time. The ability to balance study with work makes it possible for more people to upskill without needing to pause their career.

While Monrè is still in the early stages of the course, he’s confident that gaining a formal qualification will support the long-term future of his business. He sees his training in the course as a way to strengthen both his technical understanding and the overall direction of his work.

“After graduating, I know I’ll be able to create a sustainable company in the future.”
