Contribute to the smooth running of a legal practice

This entry level program will develop your business skills in the specialised area of legal administration. Learn the practical skills required for administrative tasks such as organising schedules, transcribing, producing legal and business documents.

Employment outcomes

You will have the essential skills and knowledge to gain employment in the courts, police force or legal offices in a diverse range of roles including:

  • legal receptionist
  • legal secretary or assistant
  • legal support officer

Recognition of Prior Learning

You can seek RPL where your work or qualifications of an advanced and related nature have been undertaken. Academic Credit is granted on a case-by-case basis, according to our Academic Credit policy and associated procedures. Applications for Academic Credit will be assessed by relevant Melbourne Polytechnic academics and where appropriate, industry experts.

Assessment Methods

Assessment will be a combination of tests, practical exercises, case studies, demonstrations, observations, role plays and assignments


Textbooks and other materials you will need to supply will be outlined at class induction or enrolment.
We will provide additional materials and access to a computer (in our labs and/or the library) if you don't have access to a computer at home

Entrance Requirements

  • there are no mandatory requirements for entry to this course
  • you are expected to possess the underpinning skills and have an educational level that will enable the achievement of the objectives
  • it would be of benefit to have completed the Certificate II in Business to develop the underpinning skills
