Work Education Department

Alex’s Story

profile-alexAlex was referred to the Work Education Department from Epping Secondary College in 2007.

He started in Certificate 1 in Transition Education and completed this in 2008. In 2009 he successfully completed several units from the Certificate 11 in Business Administration.

He was then referred to the Work Education Department and completed Certificate 1 in Work Education 2010-2011. As part of a successful practical placement, Alex was offered casual work in the Research and Development Department at Hume City Council.

The Work Education Department linked Alex in with a specialist employment agency, Wesley, and with the assistance of the Melbourne Polytechnic Practical Placement team, Alex was able to secure a Traineeship at Hume City Council. He was employed 3 days per week and studied 2 days per week, one in the Work Education Department and one day in his traineeship in Certificate IV in Business Administration.

“ I learnt a lot in my studies at Melbourne Polytechnic. Cert I in Work Education prepared me for work – it helped me develop communication skills, working in a team and to feel confident. Cert III and IV in Business Admin taught me the skills to work in an office which I use everyday”.

In 2015 Alex decided he had enough experience to change employment. He currently works full time at Spotlight as a Call Centre Administrator in South Melbourne.

Alex is still a movie buff and enjoys gaming. Alex is currently saving for a trip to the USA – New York and L.A in 2018 for a much deserved break.
