Communicate effectively with Australians who are Deaf or hard of hearing.

Melbourne Polytechnic has a range of courses available to teach you effective communication with Deaf and hard of hearing children and adults.

Auslan (Australian Sign Language) is the language of the Australian Deaf community. It’s a visual form of communication that uses hand, arm and body movements to convey meaning. You’ll learn about the history of the Deaf community, culture, Auslan linguistics and communication skills.

We focus on delivering innovative, best-practice, flexible and student-centred courses. Our courses include multi-modal delivery including face-to-face teaching and online and video conferencing. These courses cater to a diverse range of students, including adults aspiring to work as Auslan interpreters, parents of Deaf and hard of hearing children, friends, families and colleagues of Deaf and hard of hearing people wanting to provide an inclusive environment or workplace, professionals that want to provide services and communicate directly with Deaf and hard of hearing clients, or anyone who loves learning new languages.

Melbourne Polytechnic is the sole provider of these professionally recognised Auslan accreditation courses in Victoria, and our course pathways provide the necessary prerequisites to Auslan interpreter training.

I had some incredible teachers throughout my diploma. They were all fantastic in their own right. I take a little bit of each teacher with me.
