This Melbourne Polytechnic short course is designed especially for professional jewellers and jewellery students who have existing fabrication skills and wish to enhance their skills in setting gemstones.

If you are a professional jeweller or a jewellery student with existing fabrication skills and you wish to enhance your skills in setting gemstones, then Melbourne Polytechnic’s intermediate Gem Setting short course is for you.

Topics:

  • making basic setting equipment/tools
  • stone setting (rub over, claw, channel and gypsy setting)

Please note: This is not a beginner’s course. You must have fabrication skills and experience in the use of jewellery hand tools and/or equipment.

Materials: Participants are required to provide their own tools. A list of required tools are provide on the enrolment confirmation letter.

Participants will be issued with silver rings, synthetic gemstones and a series of drills and burs so they can practise learnt techniques during the course. Completed rings are retained by participants.
