Overview
Our Intermediate Jewellery course provides the inspirational progressive step for participants who have completed our Introductory Jewellery course or who have basic jewellery skills.
Intermediate Jewellery is suitable for:
- Participants who have completed the Introductory Jewellery short course
- Participants seeking to increase their basic jewellery making skills
Topics covered in our Intermediate Jewellery short course:
- Wax carving
- Wax texturing and finishing
- Finishing of metal castings
- Fine silver soldering
- Jump rings manufacture
- Fob catch construction
- Surface texturing
Intermediate Jewellery short course projects include:
- Sterling silver ring prototype made in wax, cast in sterling silver (casting off-site)
- Sterling silver linked bracelet
- Hollow copper bead on neckpiece
Course outcomes for Intermediate Jewellery short course:
- You will gain the skills and knowledge to create your own jewellery and apply the techniques to other jewellery pieces
- You will may create a folio of your work to present for entry into our Advanced Diploma of Jewellery and Object Design MEM60222
- A Certificate of Completion will be issued at the conclusion of the course.
Transfers and refunds
A refund or transfer is only possible if you apply at least 5 business days prior to the course commencing. A standard handling charge of 10% of the advertised course fee will be deducted from each refund. Requests for refunds or transfers made within five business days of the course start date will not be eligible.
Please note:
When enrolling into this course under “Available Sessions” below, you must use a personal email address as your primary email address. You will not be able to receive your qualification with a work email address. My eQuals (the qualification platform) will not accept a work email.
Students who require a carer/Support Worker to accompany them in class are requested to notify Short Courses of this before they enrol into the course by contacting us on 9269 8615.
This is essential due to limitations on class size and space.
This requirement is compulsory, regardless of whether students are providing their own carer or requesting one from Melbourne Polytechnic.
Please note that additional paperwork may be necessary to approve your carer's access to campus facilities.
Requirements
Basic jewellery knowledge and skills, such as those gained through our Introduction to Jewellery short course. You are required to have had some experience using jeweller's tools and working with metal in the following ways to get the most out of this Intermediate short course - Saw Piercing, Drilling, Filing and Sanding/Finishing metal and Soldering.
Materials
All materials (including sterling silver) and tools will be provided.Participants are required to bring:
- Students are to wear enclosed shoes or safety boots (covered footwear) to protect their feet. If appropriate shoes are not worn, you may not be able to participate in the class and be dismissed for that session
- A disposable Dust Mask
- Natural fibred clothing is preferable
- A pencil
- Fine tip permanent marker
- Notebook
- Non-synthetic apron
- Safety glasses - those who wear prescription glasses should purchase safety goggles that fit over their glasses
