WIN for NMIT Screen and Media student

28 Nov 2013

Graduating NMIT (Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE) Screen and Media student, Samuel Deveson, has been hired by WIN TV.

Sam will be a part of the WIN news team, both shooting and editing stories for the evening news program. He will be based in the Ballarat office and is moving there from Melbourne.

WIN has provided excellent professional pathways for NMIT students, with many of the Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media students going on to get jobs with the rural network. Four NMIT Diploma of Video Editing alumni are currently employed with WIN television.

During his time with NMIT, Sam took advantage of the scope of study available to Screen and Media students to help make career decisions. “When I came into the course I had no idea what I was best suited to,” said Sam. “I liked camera work the most, so that’s where I focussed, and where I’m going with my career.”

Since graduating from the Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media at the end of 2012, Sam has worked hard putting a professional resume together. He has been working with McGuire Media’s racing programs Get On and Two Cups and a Plate. These programs are shot at NMIT’s state-of-the art television studio in Collingwood.

“It’s been hard work, but my teachers really helped me to find opportunities, even after graduation.  Now I’m in the best possible position to get experience.”

Moving for work provides its own set of challenges. Whilst Sam has lived in Melbourne all his life, he’s ready for the change of scenery. “It’s really exciting, but I’m a bit nervous too,” said Sam. “It will be a big change for me, moving out of the city, but I’m glad for it.”

NMIT wishes Sam good luck in his new career!
