NMIT student band - Yorque - to feature in local label launch event

10 Sep 2013

A local band featuring NMIT students will release its debut EP at a special launch and artist showcase by local Darebin record label, ‘Decibels Records’.

‘Yorque’, made up of NMIT Bachelor of Music Industry students Alison Thom, Cameron Paice, Oscar Galt and Michael Hood, have had a massive year, receiving kudos from Gotye, as well as working one-on-one with award winning producer Scott Mathews (Mick Jagger, David Bowie, Snoop Dogg).

In 2013, Decibels Records signed and worked with Yorque to produce their debut EP.

Yorque’s sound combines folk, rock and alternative elements, with piano arrangements driving each song.

Greg Arnold, Head of Program, NMIT’s Bachelor of Music Industry said “What separates Yorque from other bands is their ability to avoid the predictable, combining a number of genres to create a truly unique sound and the terrific songs as well”.

The City of Darebin’s Decibels Records initiative is a youth-led program for young people interested in pursuing a career within the music industry.

Yorque and another Darebin act, Miss Eileen & King Lear, will launch their respective debut EPs at a special Artist Showcase and Release Launch event as part of the 2013 Darebin Music Feast.

“NMIT’s industry partnership (with the City of Darebin) gives students the experience of what it’s like to be signed to an independent record label as well as working to establish themselves and maintaining their band’s presence,” said Greg Arnold.

In further good news for students contemplating a career in the music industry, NMIT recently announced that it will commence a variety of programs in Music, Sound Production, and Music Business at a new Prahran campus in 2014 .

Tickets for the Decibels Records all-ages launch event are available through the Northcote Town Hall at .

The launch will be a fully supervised, all ages, drug, alcohol and smoke-free event.
