NMIT Screen and Media Students continue TV partnership with McGuire Media

07 Jun 2013

NMIT (Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE) has extended its partnership with McGuire Media to produce two on-air racing programs for Foxtel and the TAB Agency Network over the next three years.

Students enrolled in Screen and Media courses at NMIT's Collingwood campus, will continue to produce episodes of the racing shows, Get On and Two Cups & A Plate, after a new agreement was signed effective as of July 1, 2013.

The programs, produced in partnership with McGuire Media, are broadcast on Thursday evenings on racing channel TVN via Foxtel ch522 and through the TAB Agency Network.

According to NMIT's Screen and Media Program Coordinator, Nick Lovett the opportunity to work on a television program provides students looking to enter the TV broadcast industry with a huge advantage.

“Production partnerships such as this enable our students to graduate with practical skills and show reels to help launch their careers.”

Nick Lovett suggests that as a result of the association with McGuire Media, at least 14 students have secured broadcast or television production roles in the industry on completing their studies.

NMIT is a well-regarded provider of highly skilled practitioners in the TV broadcast and video production industry and the Institute's Screen and Media courses have been developed in close collaboration with the industry.

Students have access to state-of-the art, High Definition, broadcast quality production studios and use current video production equipment (EVS, VIZrt and DVN) as part of their course.

Besides the partnership with McGuire Media, NMIT Screen and Media students work collaboratively with a variety of third party clients, including government agencies, production houses and TV broadcasters.

“It's not just the students that benefit,” adds Nick Lovett. “The production partnerships are equally as rewarding for industry practitioners, who get to impart knowledge, mentor a young person and help them launch their career.”
