NMIT is participating in a Commonwealth Government trial Scheme to make access to vocational education easier.
The Commonwealth Department of Education is trialling an extension of the VET FEE-HELP income contingent loan scheme to a limited range of Certificate IV Courses.
VET FEE-HELP is a Commonwealth Government loan to cover the cost of all or part of a students’ tuition fees and had previously been available to eligible diploma and advanced diploma students.
The Trial is designed to test the effects of extending the VET FEE-HELP loan scheme on student enrolments, completions and pathways to further education.
Eligible courses offered under the trial scheme at NMIT include:
- Certificate IV in Agriculture
- Certificate IV in Disability
- Certificate IV in Building and Construction (Building)
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
More good news ... no loan fee and no upfront fees
Eligible students accessing a VET FEE-HELP loan via the Certificate IV trial program will not incur a loan fee.
NMIT has also announced further good news for potential students in order to encourage them to participate in the trial by removing any requirement to pay up-front fees which means eligible students will not be charged additional amenities or materials fees.
Concession fees still available
Concession fees will still apply to eligible Certificate IV level students taking up the VET FEE-HELP option.
To be eligible for the VET FEE-HELP trial at Certificate IV level students must meet the following criteria:
- Be eligible for a Government Subsidised Place under the Victorian Training Guarantee (VTG)
- Studying a unit/s which end on or before 31 December 2016
- Are an Australian citizen or permanent humanitarian visa holder
- Are enrolled on or before the census date of an eligible unit of study through an approved VET provider
- Meet tax file number requirements
- Have not exceeded the FEE-HELP limit.
The trial in Victoria will be for a limited period and concludes on 31 December 2016.
Trial does not extend to full fee-for-service students.
