Bailey O’Connor-Tennant, Canadian national and NMIT (Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE) student, has had a great year in the Diploma of Events including winning an ISES Emerging Talent award for 2013.
The award was presented by the International Special Events Society (ISES) at their annual gala held at the Melbourne Museum. The award recognises excellence in events organisation. Bailey received her award in recognition of her work as part of the organising committee for the ISES Student Conference held earlier this year.
The ISES Student Conference provides information and contacts within the events management industry. This year, three NMIT students were accepted out of over 100 applicants from different institutes to help produce the event.
Bailey, who is enrolled in the Diploma of Events at NMIT, felt that she was lucky to win the award. “I knew I was nominated but the team we had was really professional, I was a bit surprised when they read out my name,” she said. “I was really happy once it sunk in, I feel very honoured to have won.”
Bailey, who found herself living in Australia after visiting on her gap year, feels that she has found an industry that she really enjoys working in. “It just feels like it’s my niche and what I should be doing.”
Whilst Bailey is originally from Toronto Canada, she sees herself living in Melbourne in the future and working in our thriving Events Management industry. “Melbourne has a thriving events industry. This city has some of most unique venues that I have experienced and it's also a fantastic place to live."
Bailey’s success marks the first time an NMIT student has won the ISES Emerging Talent Award.
The Diploma of Events is currently offered at NMIT’s Preston campus, and at the start of 2014 will also be offered at NMIT’s new Prahran campus. Operating under the title of Melbourne Polytechnic, the Prahran campus will offer courses in the creative industries.
