NMIT Student Raffaela Angerosa Wins National Design Award

01 Apr 2014

Raffaela, now in her third year of an Advanced Diploma of Building Design (Architectural), was awarded first place in the End of Year Graphisoft ArchiCAD Student Competition for her design of a Northcote office building.

The Graphisoft competition called for students Australia-wide to submit work completed in ArchiCAD, a program designed specifically for use by architects, designers and planners, throughout 2013.

Raffaela was praised for her well-balanced approach to craft and documentation and her high level of ArchiCAD understanding from conception to publishing. A video showcasing her winning office building design, along with other highly commended entries, has been published online.

With a background in fashion and a Diploma in Textiles, Clothing and Footwear, Raffaela says, “I felt that I wanted to try something different. I was doing pattern making in the fashion industry, which is also design-focused, so while I wanted to try a different pathway I also wanted to keep with what I loved to do. I’m definitely happy about making the change and studying at NMIT.”

The Advanced Diploma of Building Design (Architectural) equips students with the knowledge and skills to accomplish design, presentation and the documentation process for residential and commercial building projects. The course focuses around the idea of ‘the simulated office’ with a project-based delivery structure where students apply the knowledge gained to projects as they progress through the course.

Due to complete her Advanced Diploma in mid-2014, Raffaela praised her teachers and the knowledge that she has gained during her studies. “I’d like to build on what I’ve learnt at NMIT and continue working with ArchiCAD. The course has given me a great insight into what a career in the design industry will entail and this award demonstrates that I have experience using industry-standard tools and will improve my job prospects.”

“I’m really happy that I made the career change and I look forward to continuing to express myself through design.”
