NMIT students win silver in VicTAFE Cookery Competition

NMIT cookery students achieved a silver medal overall and received the award for the best dessert of the competition at the VicTAFE Cookery Challenge.

The event this year was held at the Angliss Culinary Academy at the William Angliss Institute on 15th July 2009. TAFEs represented were Chisholm, Box Hill, Holmesglen, Gordon, William Angliss as well as NMIT.

VicTAFE Cookery Challenge is a premier competition founded in 1998 at NMIT and open to students from all Victorian TAFE Institutes. It provides the opportunity for Hospitality Department students from the various TAFE Institutes compete against each other with their culinary skills in a team environment.

Only one team per Institute can enter and all student entrants must be an apprentice and enrolled in certificate III In Hospitality (Commercial Cookery).

The NMIT Team was composed of:

  • Sufian Talip, 3rd year, Team captain
  • Arnny Vengco, 3rd year
  • Rene Selkrig, 1st year
  • Matthew Ouwerker, 2nd year
  • Martin De Korte, Team Manager
  • Hamish Rodwell, Assistant Manager.
