NMIT Bachelor of Writing and Publishing student lands eBooks internship with leading feminist press

25 Mar 2013

Spinifex Press has awarded NMIT Bachelor of Writing and Publishing student Monika Roberts an internship to assist with managing their eBooks division. This highly sought-after position is based at Spinifex's Melbourne office and is 6 months in length.

"This is a terrific achievement for Monika," said Dr Karen Simpson Nikakis, Head of the BWAP pro-gramme. “We're delighted that Spinifex approached us in their search for a digital native to help with their eBooks operation. Our degree is specifically designed to supply students with the skills to develop successful careers in the rapidly changing terrain of writing and publishing. We know Monika's career aspirations will benefit enormously from this opportunity.”

Spinifex Press is an independent Australian feminist press co-founded in 1991 by Susan Hawthorne and Renate Klein. Spinifex is well known as one of Australia's leading technological innovators, with over 80% of its list available electronically.

"This is tremendously exciting next step in my career", said Monika. "The internship will allow me to gain valuable hands-on experience with one of the first Australian publishers to tackle the challenge of digital publishing." Director of Spinifex Press, Susan Hawthorne agreed, adding, "I think Monika will do well."

Since its first intake in 2009, NMIT's Bachelor of Writing and Publishing has rapidly developed a reputation for excellence and innovation in research and teaching. Adding to the programme's industry-acclaimed undergraduate degree, the new Publishing Lab was established in 2010 by Paul Ashton, Coordinator of Publishing, to research and develop emergent publishing platforms.
