Katie can handle it!

27 Jul 2009

NMIT Diploma of Agriculture student, Katie Reid, has applied the cattle handling skills she has learnt during her studies to achieve a great result at the Stud Beef (Victoria) annual Cattle Handler's camp held at the Royal Melbourne Show Grounds.

Katie impressed the judges to achieve second place in the adult cattle handler's class.

Katie lead a Red Poll steer named 'Frank' during the event. Conditioned and broken in 'to lead' at NMIT's Yan Yean Training Farm, Frank was also awarded 1st place in the Steer Class. Frank's next showing will be at the Royal Melbourne Show in September where Katie will lead him in the handler's class.

This was a great result for Katie who gave up her own time to attend the Cattle Handler's camp. She even took her swag and lived in one of the pavilions for three days.
