2011 Seymour Alternative Farming Expo a great success

2011 marked the third year in which NMIT's involvement with SAFE that proved a great success with hundreds of people attending the Ag Zone seminar series, the Butcher Shop and Country Kitchen presentation program and pampered at the all NEW Personal Services Hair, Health and Beauty Zone!

Staff and students from Agriculture, Aquaculture, Cookery, Equine Studies, Horticulture, Meat Processing, Viticulture and Winemaking, Hairdressing, Massage, and Beauty assisted in making the NMIT zones a success at the Expo.

  • The Ag Zone (Earth Sciences display site, seminar program and Seymour Agricultural & Pastoral Society practical livestock demonstration program)
  • The Food Zone (Butcher Shop demonstration program and cooking)
  • The Hair, Health & Beauty Zone ran massage, manicure and hairstyling presentations by staff and students.

Ag Zone

  • The NMIT Ag Zone is now an established 'information precinct' that is actively sought out by SAFE patrons interested in lifestyle farming and alternative agricultural enterprises.
  • A program of 15 seminars (do we still have link to seminar program) was delivered by NMIT program staff and industry experts.

Food Zone

  • Attendees got to experience butchery demonstrations where goat, lamb and pork carcasses were cut up and prepared for some delicious cooking presentations using locally sourced produce.
  • Even Shannon Ponton from The Biggest Loser took part in the cooking demonstrations and provided informed commentary on nutrition.

Hair, Health & Beauty Zone

  • Staff and students from NMIT's Personal Services' course areas attended SAFE for the first time to demonstrate their skills in massage, manicure and hairstyling in which SAFE patrons were invited to indulge in.
