New Cafe at NMITs Fairfield Campus

23 Aug 2007

Enjoy a moment of indulgence with the best café latte or award-winning wines at a new licensed café in the heritage listed environs of the Fairfield campus of Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE(NMIT).

NMIT recently opened the Fairfield Nursery Café at the campus which caters for up to 35 people indoors, with outdoor seating also available in the landscaped gardens of the campus.

The café, located in a heritage building, has glass windows across its four walls for a light and airy ambience. It is furnished with polished aluminium tables and chairs and includes an area with two leather couches and a small coffee table for more laid-back conversation and coffee. It also has a gas log fire to offset the cold chills of winter and umbrellas to protect patrons sitting outside in the warm sun.

Open from 9am-4pm Wednesday-Saturday, the café overlooks Yarra Bend Park and nestles quietly alongside NMIT's nursery which offers patrons a comprehensive range of native and exotic indoor and outdoor plants at very reasonable prices.

These plants are propagated by horticulture students at the campus as part of their hands-on experience in their training programs.

The café serves a range of homestyle gourmet rolls, sandwiches and soups as well as cakes, muffins and biscuits all under $10. A special children's menu is also available.

The café, accessed via Yarra Bend Rd., is designed to complement the heritage listed campus and plant nursery by providing picturesque environs to relax in and enjoy the tranquillity by sipping NMIT's wines which have garnered seven gold, eight silver and 48 bronze medals at prestigious wine shows around Australia.

NMIT offers a range of programs at the Fairfield campus including horticulture, animal science, jewellery, performing and visual arts.
