Students from the Diploma of Sound Production will perform original electronic music and sound design in two evening concerts in November, after a successful first year of the course being offered at NMIT (Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE).
The Diploma of Sound Production is unique in that it provides a special focus for students who wish to write, record and produce their own original music. This “student as artist” focus differs from an industry service provision focus. Students produce a significant body of original work as their main assessment portfolio.
“The course has proven very successful,” says Darren Steffen, Program Coordinator, “and this is evident through the high quality of work being produced by the students.”
Using a range of technology students have written, recorded and produced their own music and sound design compositions. Now it's time to perform!
Students will have the opportunity to translate their creative works from the safe confines of the studio and home recording environment into a professional performance space.
“Unlike the studio, live performance cannot be repeated, edited or retouched,” says Steffan. “It's a crucial part of a developing artist's training.”
Interactive technology will also feature in the concerts and students will provide technical support for each other, by recording the concerts as they happen in the Greensborough recording studio.
Bookings are not required, but entry will be restricted if seating capacity is reached.
