NMIT takes the lead in sustainable business

25 Mar 2013

The Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE (NMIT) will launch a new Bachelor of Accounting degree this month, with a strong focus on sustainable business practices and environmental economics.

The course, the first degree of its kind in Victoria, was developed in consultation with industry, government and accounting and professional bodies, in a bid to meet the growing demand for business professionals qualified in the areas of accounting and sustainable business.

NMIT Head of Accounting Program, Dianne Harvey says the new degree will equip students with the credentials they need to adapt to today's business environment, where corporate social responsibility and an environmental approach to business are of increasing importance.

“We're offering students a mainstream accounting degree combined with a specialist stream on sustainability, which will give them an edge in the modern business environment where these skills are in strong demand.”

The course covers traditional accounting topics including Business Law, Auditing, Tax and Corporate Accounting, together with specialist subjects including Introduction to Sustainability Studies, Environmental Law and Environmental Economics and Policy.

The Bachelor of Accounting is a three-year degree accredited by the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority (VRQA) and is offered on either a full-time or part-time basis.

Graduates of NMIT's Associate Degree in Accounting are eligible for up to 16 subject credits towards the Bachelor of Accounting course.

Limited places are still available starting in February 2010.

Information nights will be held on Thursday, January 28, and February 11 and 25. Visit for more information.
