NMIT Screen and Media Students on the home straight to produce Foxtel and TAB content

21 Sep 2010

Students enrolled in Screen and Media courses at NMIT (Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE) Collingwood campus will produce 1.5 hour episodes of the weekly racing show, Racing Review.

The program, produced in partnership with McGuire Media, will be broadcast on Sunday mornings commencing in September for racing channel TVN via Foxtel and through the TAB Agency Network.

The students, currently studying the Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media learn in NMIT's state-of-the-art, High Definition, broadcast quality production studios and use video production equipment used commonly in the industry and to industry standards.

“These production partnerships provide a huge advantage for anyone looking to enter into the TV broadcast industry,” says Darren Steffen, Screen and Media Program Coordinator at NMIT. “Experiences like the project with McGuire Media provide our students with direct links to the industry and real industry experience and they graduate with practical skills and screen credits to launch their careers.”

NMIT is a well-regarded provider of highly skilled practitioners in the TV broadcast and video production industry and the Institute's Screen and Media courses have been developed in close collaboration with the industry.

Courses involve production partnerships with third party clients like McGuire Media from a variety of sectors, including corporate video, government and TV broadcasting.

As a result, NMIT has a proven track record with graduates finding employment as camera operators, editors, directors, producers, floor managers, lighting assistants and as other technicians.

“It's not just the students that benefit,” adds Darren Steffen. “The production partnerships are equally as rewarding for industry practitioners, who get to impart knowledge, mentor a young person and help them launch their career.”
