Anthology seeks creative fusion

10 Aug 2012

Are you a writer, poet, artist or photographer? INfusion would like to hear from you.

INFusion is an anthology published twice a year by NMIT (Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE) Diploma of Professional Writing and Editing students. The publication, produced since 2000, is now asking you to get creative for issue 47.

Edwina Preston, a Professional Writing and Editing teacher at NMIT's Collingwood campus, oversees the publication. “We are putting out the call for images, short stories, short plays, humour, lyrics, rhyme, poetry, memoir, graphic novel extracts, reviews and non-fiction - we'd love to see what you've got.”

INfusion gives NMIT students hands-on publishing experience while providing opportunities for artists to see their work in a professionally produced publication. Edwina says, “The magazine is an important part of the course; it gives students experience in all aspects of publishing, including project development, manuscript assessment, structural and copy editing, book design and layout, proof reading, negotiating with printers and distribution. It's great because it allows students a chance to discover what they are good at.”

The magazine recently celebrated the launch of issue 46 with readings, food and drink. Edwina says she's impressed with the quality of the issue. “At over 150 pages long, it's full of great stories, poems and photography. INFusion has been improving every year, not only the quality of the content, but the production quality too. Issue 46 had a dedicated group of editors who worked really well together - not always an easy thing. You can't teach a lot of these skills, students need to develop them with hands-on projects.”

Issue 47 is scheduled for publication in late November. Submissions are open until August 31 at
