Media Alert - Smoking Secateurs Who is Australia's number one vine pruner?

If you think you work the grape vines better than anyone then this is your chance to prove it!

The Earth Sciences Faculty at NMIT (Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE), a leading training provider to Australia's winemaking and viticulture industry, wants to find the hottest pair of secateurs in the land. So they're hosting this year's Australian Pruning competition at a new and more central venue - NMIT's Northern Lodge vineyard at Eden Park (20 minutes north of Epping).

Up for grabs is a BAHCO 9320 Electric Secateur valued at approximately $2,600 (rrp) plus other prizes on the day.

Entries are offered in three classes:

  • The 'BAHCO' Individual Event ($20 per entry)
  • Teams Event (three people per team/ $50 per team)
  • The NMIT Student Event ($5 per entry) open to students enrolled in viticulture and winemaking courses throughout Australia.

Spectators are also encouraged to come along and support their workmates, classmates or team and learn the finer techniques of vine pruning at the same time.
