Media Alert - Manchester Metropolitan University's Graphic Design Lecturer to visit NMIT

12 Jul 2010

UK Scholar to visit NMIT Bachelor of Illustration.

Clinton Cahill, Senior Lecturer in Graphic Design, Faculty of Art & Design, Manchester Metropolitan University, will tour NMIT facilities, Melbourne's Arts precincts, meet key program staff and provide lectures to students during his visit to Melbourne from August 6 to 26.

Mr Cahill lectures at one of Britain's largest and oldest Art schools in a city that has developed a reputation as a European centre of the arts. In addition to his work as an educator he has maintained personal practice in painting and has a commercial background in illustration. A senior lecturer in the School of Design, Clinton is a group tutor for third year BA (Hons) Design and Art Direction students and subject route tutor for MA Design and Art Direction.

During his stay in Melbourne, Clinton will be based at NMIT's Fairfield campus and his itinerary includes visits to NMIT campuses, Yan Yean Farm, Growling Frog winery as well as industry visits showcasing Melbourne's Arts sector.

This is not the first contact between Manchester Metropolitan University and NMIT. In April 2009, Dr Colleen Morris, NMIT's Bachelor of Illustration Head of Program / Senior Lecturer met with Professor David Crow, now Dean of the Art & Design Faculty at Manchester Metropolitan University while attending the three day Association of Art Historians (AAH) Annual Conference, hosted by MMU in Manchester.

It is expected that the visit will be an excellent opportunity to extend the relationship between NMIT and Manchester Metropolitan University. NMIT staff are looking forward to the professional development that will come out of the exchange, and students stand to benefit from Clinton's expertise in design and illustration. A series of lectures and staff development activities are planned with a particular focus on the British and European region.

Clinton will be accompanied by his wife, Sheila on his visit to Australia.
