We are very excited to announce that Melbourne Polytechnic is seeking to appoint a general commercial lawyer with 3-10 years' experience.  This role reports to the General Counsel/Director Corporate Governance, and is a valued member of a collegiate Corporate Governance Directorate.

Your primary objectives will be to:

  • Negotiate and document general commercial agreements;
  • Provide strategic advice to senior management and the Board;
  • Develop relationships with executives, heads of schools and colleges, and managers across the organisation;
  • Instruct external legal counsel on complex or high risk matters; and
  • Provide advice and assistance to the General Counsel/Director Corporate Governance in relation to a broad portfolio of legal and governance functions.

About You

To be successful in this role you will have the following:

Key Selection Criteria:

  • A proven track record in drafting and negotiating contracts and general commercial agreements is a key requirements in this role. 
  • A relevant degree and eligibility to practise law in Victoria are essential.
  • Work experience within, or exposure to, the VET or Higher Education sector and/or public sector is desirable but not essential.
  • Knowledge of intellectual property law; and/or exposure to general corporate governance functions would also be highly regarded.


The salary will be in the range of $100,000 ­to $120,000 per annum plus superannuation, commensurate with skills and experience.
