COVIDSafe Campus Information

General information can be found on the coronavirus information page.

Be part of local history

Fairfield campus was acquired by Melbourne Polytechnic in 2004. The site was formerly home to the internationally renowned Fairfield Infectious Diseases Hospital, which, prior to its closure in 1996, was the last specific infectious diseases hospital in Australia. The hospital treated conditions such as typhoid, diphtheria, cholera, smallpox, poliomyelitis, scarlet fever, and in its later years HIV/AIDS.

We honour the memory of the hospital through the AIDS Memorial Garden. This garden, established in 1988, provides a lasting place of tranquillity and reflection for the family, friends and loved ones of those affected by AIDS.
